Snowman Placemat (Optional Hat Coaster)

Supplies:

*White (I used White in Lily Sugar n' Cream)

Less than 1 Skein, or color of your choice.

*Black (I used Black in Lily Sugar n" Cream)

Less than 1 Skein, or color of your choice.
*Orange (I used Hot Orange in Lily Sugar n" Cream)

Less than 1 Skein, or color of your choice.

** (Optional for hat) Red (I used Red in Lily Sugar n" Cream)

Less than 1 Skein, or color of your choice.

 *Size U.S. H or 8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook or adjust according to different yarn types/gauges.

*Scissors

*Yarn Needle

Abbreviations:

st = stitch
ch = chain 

DC = double crotchet

DC2tog = double crochet 2 stitches together (dc decrease)

 PLACEMAT (About 12 inches wide)

In White, Magic Ring, Ch 1, 12 DC in magic ring, join in first DC.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 DC in each st around, join in first DC (24 DC)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, 1 DC in next st,  2 DC in next st, repeat around, join in first DC (36 DC)
Rnd 4: Ch 2, 1 DC in next 2 sts,  2 DC in next st, repeat around, join in first DC (48 DC)
Rnd 5: Ch 2, 1 DC in next 3 sts,  2 DC in next st, repeat around, join in first DC (60 DC)
Rnd 6: Ch 2, 1 DC in next 4 sts,  2 DC in next st, repeat around, join in first DC (72 DC)
Rnd 7: Ch 2, 1 DC in next 5 sts,  2 DC in next st, repeat around, join in first DC (84 DC)
Rnd 8: Ch 2, 1 DC in next 6 sts,  2 DC in next st, repeat around, join in first DC (95 DC)
Rnd 9: Ch 2, 1 DC in next 7 sts,  2 DC in next st, repeat around, join in first DC (108 DC)
Rnd 10: Ch 2, 1 DC in next 8 sts,  2 DC in next st, repeat around, join in first DC (120 DC)
Rnd 11: Ch 2, 1 DC in next 9 sts,  2 DC in next st, repeat around, join in first DC (132 DC)
Finish off, weave in tails.



EYES (Make 2)

In Black, Magic Ring, Ch 1, 12 DC in magic ring, join in first DC.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 DC in each st around, join in first DC (24 DC)
Finish off, leave a long tail for sewing onto placemat.  Optional: Add a little white around a couple stitches to make a little twinkle in his eyes.



MOUTH (Make 5)

In Black, Magic Ring, Ch 1, 12 DC in magic ring, join in first DC.
Finish off, leave a long tail for sewing onto placemat.



NOSE

In Orange, Magic Ring, Ch 1, 12 DC in magic ring, join in first DC.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 DC in each st around, join in first DC (24 DC)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, 1 DC in next st,  2 DC in next st, repeat around, join in first DC (36 DC)
Row 4: Ch 2, DC2tog, 1 DC in next 4 sts, DC2tog, turn (6 sts)
Row 5: Ch 2, DC2tog, 1 DC in next 2 sts, DC2tog, turn (4 sts)
Row 6: Ch 2, DC2tog twice, turn (2 sts)
Row 7: Ch 2, DC2tog (1 st)
Finish off, leave a long tail for sewing onto placemat.



Assemble your eyes, nose, and mouth, however you would like, onto your placemat!

(OPTIONAL) HAT COASTER (About 3 1/2 inches long and wide)
In Black, Ch 20
Row 2: DC in 3rd ch from hook, and each ch across, turn (18 DC)
Row 3: Ch 2, DC in each st across, turn (18 DC)
Finish Off.
Row 4: In Red, Join with a DC in 3rd DC from beginning of row, DC in next 13 sts, turn (14 DC)
Row 5: In Black, DC in each st across, turn (14 DC)
Rows 6-8: DC in each st across (14 DC)
Finish off, weave in tails!
